Email sent to the four professors introducing myself and talking about my goals for the series:
My name is Cheol Kessler and I am a senior, Sport Studies major here at St. John Fisher College. I have met with Professor Reinson in regards to the Film’n the Field Series and am very excited to work with you all in an effort to promote and make each film showing a success. As Professor Reinson stated in an email earlier today, I would like to meet and speak with each of you about your specific film or TV series. As part of this project I plan on creating a WordPress site about the film series as a way to help promote each film showing. If you wish, I can film our meeting and post it with your film’s page on the site. I know you are all working very hard on this project and I will work just as hard to help you anyway that I can. Please contact me via email (cjk01215@sjfc.edu) so that we can schedule a meeting sometime soon to discuss your film or TV series. Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you all soon.
1st Email sent to Heather Kowalczyk, Communications Specialist at Fisher:
My name is Cheol Kessler and I am a Sport Studies major here at St. John Fisher College. In the month of October four professors from Fisher will each be hosting a “Film’n the Field Series” for students, faculty, and the community. Each part of the series will highlight a specific film or television show that one of the professors has chosen (below lists the professors and their chosen work). These films/shows were chosen by the professors due to different issues and concepts presented as well as the unique and interesting story that each tells.
- Monday, October 5, – Lisa Jadwin – “Touching the Void”
- Wednesday, October 7 – Todd Sodano – Sports Night
- Monday, October 12 – Alan Pogroszewski – Arli$$
- Wednesday, October 14 – Emily Dane – “On the Ropes”
I have been assigned to market and promote this event to both the campus and community. I am contacting you today in hopes that we could publish a press release on Fisher’s website and also have each event marked in the college calendar. I appreciate your help and please feel free to contact me at your earliest convenience. Thank you.
Second Email sent to Heather Kowalczyk:
I have more information about the Film’n the Field Series for you. All four of the film/shows will be shown in Pioch 101 from 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM (the four films, the professor, and the date of the showing are listed below). At each event the professor will speak either before or after the viewing about different themes and issues presented in the film/show. The main reason that the professors chose their particular film is to show students and faculty at Fisher a work that depicts a unique environment that is centered on important issues in sport, culture, and life. The Film’n the Field Series was created for a purpose. That purpose being to be able to view and discuss important issues that sport films/shows present. Sport can mask a lot of sensitive issues, that when presented outright, people shy away from. When these issues are presented within the context of a film, people relate to certain characters and are able to approach some of the hypothetical and rationale behind actions and behaviors.
- Monday, October 5, – Lisa Jadwin – “Touching the Void”
- Wednesday, October 7 – Todd Sodano – Sports Night
- Monday, October 12 – Alan Pogroszewski – Arli$$
- Wednesday, October 14 – Emily Dane – “On the Ropes”
Door Prizes (Fisher clothing, gift cards, movies, candy, etc) will be drawn during the event for those in attendance. The room itself will also be decorated based on the theme of the film/show being played that night. Popcorn, candy, and drinks will also be served.
I hope this information helps you. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns please feel free to contact me at cjk01215@sjfc.edu.
Thanks again for your help!
Third Email Sent to Heather Kowalczyk:
Hello Ms Kowalczyk,
I sent you an email last week about the “Film’n the Field Series” that four professors are putting on in October. I just checked the college calendar and did not see the events listed or an article in the “News Releases” section of the website. I wanted to check with you to make sure that you received my email with all of the information about the event (sent last week). The first film showing is tonight, October 5th, at 6:30 in Pioch 101 and there will be 3 other film viewings later in the month. You stated last week that you would be able to post this event in the campus calendar as well as a release about the event and I just wanted to make sure that it can be done. If you need anything from me I will be more than happy to assist you anyway that I can. Thank you.
Heather was able to post each of the 4 events on Fisher’s Campus Calendar. Click the following link to view http://www.sjfc.edu/calendar/
The Film’n the Field Series was also posted at http://rochestercitynewspaper.com/events/browse/?keywords=Film&categories%5B%5D=&date=30-days&location= for the community to see the event.
Email sent to the four professors giving updates on my progress:
I just wanted to give you all an update on the Film’n the Field Series.
- A student at Fisher is putting together a poster that will highlight the entire series. This poster will be placed throughout the campus for all to see.
- A campus wide email will be sent out later this week detailing the Film’n the Fields Series. Attached to this email will be the poster and links to trailers.
- Someone from the Cardinal Courier will be attending one of the events to interview those in attendance, take pictures, and write an article for the next Courier issue.
- Heather Kowalczyk, the Communication Specialist here at Fisher, has agreed to post a release about the event on St. John Fisher’s website and mark each event in the campus calendar.
- I am currently in the process of posting the series on the City Newspaper calendar.
- I am currently in the process of getting someone from the D&C to come and write an article about the event.
- I am currently in the process of finding sponsors for the Film’n the Field Series (hopefully Blockbuster and local movie theaters). With sponsors we will be able to serve food and drinks, create more posters, and give away door prizes to attract more viewers.
- To make the event itself more entertaining to those in attendance, I will be decorating the room using the main theme from your chosen work. Example: for Professor Jadwin’s “Touching the Void,” I will have pictures of Siula Grande on the walls, the movie poster placed on the front wall, the book written by Joe Simpson on a table in the front, and fake snow covering the steps and railings.
I now need more information from each of you pertaining to your particular event. Can you please answer the following questions and send your responses to me via email ASAP?
- Do you plan on speaking or having someone speak at your event?
- Do you plan on having a post viewing discussion?
- Are you requiring any of your classes to attend your film or the entire series?
- What is the main purpose for showing your particular film/show?
Question relating to the series as a whole:
- The was the ultimate goal that the four of you had when creating the “Film’n the Field Series”?
Thank you for your help. The faster that I have your responses, the faster I will be able to complete a lot of the things that I listed above. If you have any questions, concerns, or comments please feel free to contact me at cjk01215@sjfc.edu.
Email sent to Lackmann Food at St. John Fisher College:
Hello Ms Maccarone,
We spoke earlier today about the film series that four professors are putting on in October here at Fisher. I would like to order 2 gallons of hot chocolate @ $5 a gallon for the first event that will be held on Monday, October 5th. The hot chocolate will need to be delivered to Pioch 101 at 6:10 PM. I will be there to meet whoever brings it. Along with the hot chocolate can you please provide cups? Thank you for your help. I will email you after the first event to place an order for the next event which will be on Wednesday, October 7th.
Email sent to Coach Baker:
Note: For Professor Pogroszewski’s event, we had Coach Rod Baker speak. Rod Baker is the head basketball coach for the Rochester Razorsharks. Professor Pogroszewski asked me to email Coach Baker and get a biography of him specifically focusing on his career as an agent.
Hello Mr. Baker,
I am a student at St. John Fisher College working with Professor Alan Pogroszewski on the Film’n the Field Series that he and three other professors are putting on in October on campus. Professor Pogroszewski mentioned that you will be speaking at his event this Monday, the 19th. I am writing to you today in hopes that I could get a biography about yourself relating to your experiences, particularly as an agent. I have been put in charge of promoting and marketing Professor Pogroszewski’s event and I would like to know more about your career before I start my advertising campaign. I appreciate your help and I look forward to seeing you on Monday.

About the film: “Touching the Void” chronicles the experience of two British climbers, Simon Yates and Joe Simpson, who attempt to climb Siula Grande, a very difficult peak in the Andes, and experience a climbing accident. The film documents the aftermath of the accident, when one climber has to cut loose from his lifesaving tie with the injured climber, and describes what happens to the two as they attempt not simply to descend but to survive. The film is based on the first-person book of the same title by Joe Simpson.
